  • Bateleur Camp forms part of a relatively new concept in bush lodges in the Kruger National Park where smaller, more luxurious camps are built in the more remote areas of the Kruger National Park in South Africa. Bateleur Camp is a private camp, meaning only residents are allowed in Bateleur camp and on the access roads to the camp. Each of these smaller camps are situated within easy reach of the larger rest camps so that guests can make use of the larger camps' amenities if needed.

Bateleur Camp is located in the Northern Mopane and Bushwillow Savannah Woodlands of the Kruger National Park in South Africa, it is approximately 40km (24.8 miles) south west of Shingwedzi.

Bateleur Camp's closest entrance gate is at Punda Maria, about 125km (77.6 miles) to the north. Alternative entrance gates are at Pafuri 162km (100.6 miles) away and Phalaborwa, 190km (118 miles) south. The regular local flights to the Phalaborwa Kruger Park Gateway Airport is easily accessible from Bateleur.

    How to get there:

Travel routes and times from Johannesburg/Pretoria:

    Phalaborwa Gate:

Take the N1 toll-road to Polokwane (Pietersburg). Forty kilometres (24 miles) before Polokwane turn right onto the R71 and head for Tzaneen. After Tzaneen head towards Phalaborwa and the gate. Allow between 6 to 7 hours for the trip to the gate. Bateleur Bush Camp is 100 kilometres (62 miles) away from the gate. Allow about 4 hours for the drive to the bush camp, however, if you want to enjoy the game viewing possibilities, give yourself more time at the Kruger National Park in South Africa.

    Climate:

Kruger National Park in South Africa is in a summer rainfall area. Such precipitation is usually convectional and can result in heavy downpours. The summer months (October to April) are hot and often balmy. Winters are warm and mild, although visitors going on night-drives will require warm clothing.

    Vegetation:

Flora attractions that can be found in this region include the Natal Mahogany, Brack Thorn Mustard Tree, Sausage Tree, Apple Leaf, mixed Bushwillow, Silver Cluster Leaf, Round Leafed Teak, Buffalothorn, Sycamore Fig, Magic Guarri, Marula, Jackalberry, Leadwood, Mopane, Wilddate Palm, Weeping Boer Bean, Reeds and Mixed Acacias.
