Coordinating Tourism in Southern Africa

A strategic task team has been established to try and improve southern Africa's overall tourism product while reducing costs and increasing customers. The task team hopes one day to create a facility that would allow a tourist or a booking agent to make one reservation that would encompass several parks, different countries, all flights and car hire in one go.

The idea was put forward by Glenn Phillips, South African National Parks tourism director, at the Game Plan Parks Conference at the Tourism Indaba in Durban this year. In order to achieve this goal, the delegates realised that methodsĀ of communication, product offerings and payment in Africa need to be standardised. Web-sites and real-time web reservations were put forward as a possible solution. The task team will meet quarterly to achieve their goals.
