Description
The Sudan Plated Lizard is a large, stout lizard, with a short head and large eyes. The back is straw- coloured to light brown. The chin and throat are light straw to cream, and the belly is smoky-grey to light brown. In the breeding season the males develop a pinkish throat.
Distribution
The Sudan Plated Lizard is found on the savannas of Africa, from Togo in the west and Ethiopia in the north to Maputaland in the south-east.
Breeding
Mating occurs in August and 2 - 6 large, oval; eggs are laid in October-November in moist soil beneath a log or in a rock crack. Incubation takes 70 - 81 days.
Diet
Regularly eats soft fruits and flowers, in addition to insects and millipedes. |
