Saving Buffalo From TB

General
A researcher checks the thickness of a fold of skin after doing a test for bovine tuberculosis. In the test, the buffalo’s neck is shaved and the thickness of the skin fold measured. Special purified proteins are injected into the shaved area. A lymph node taken from a buffalo with BTB. The creamy-white lumps are growths (lesions) that the BTB bacteria produce. These lesions form in lymph nodes and organs, like the lungs, from where bacteria are coughed up and can infect other animals. The picture shows two examples of the same lymph node, which is located near the tonsils in buffalo. The one on the left is taken from a healthy animal that has not been infected with BTB. The large one on the right is taken from a diseased animal.
